Most baghouse bags are made from needle felt, in which fibres are mechanically bonded with barbed needles. Hydroentangled fabrics are bonded with high-pressure water jets instead, which produces a more uniform structure with a smoother surface and smaller pores.
Potential benefits
- More consistent filtration across the bag
- Better surface filtration of fine dust
- Easier release of dust during cleaning
- Lower and more stable pressure drop
When they make sense
Hydroentangled bags are worth considering where fine dust is causing emissions, where bags blind quickly, or where pressure drop is limiting airflow. They can usually be fitted in place of existing bags with the same dimensions.
Things to check
As with any fabric, temperature limits, chemical resistance and the cleaning system must be suitable. A trial set of bags is a practical way to compare performance.
SP&DE can supply trial bags and compare results with your current filters.
